And sadly, “It” is not my NaNoWriMo Hoodie. However, “It” is my Magic 8 ball that I will be using for one of the Dares in my NaNovel.

And just to make sure that “It” worked, I had to try it out. So I asked it the question all WriMos want to know the answer to…

Am I going to win NaNoWriMo this year?

I was pleased with it’s response of “Most Likely.” I mean after all, you expect a Magic 8 Ball to be truthful… most likely is a much more believable answer than “It is decidedly so” or “Yes – definitely.”

But to be on the safe side, I asked it a few follow up questions and I got varying answers:

• “Is Maggie black & white?” (for those of you who don’t know Maggie… she’s a Dalmatian… a black & white one)
  The 8 Ball answered “Yes.”
• “Is Rebel a dog?” (and he is…)
  The 8 Ball answered “My Sources Say No.” and while that seems wrong, he is, in fact, not just a dog… he is a Malinois. And anyone who knows what a Malinois is will know that a Malinois is most certainly NOT just a dog.
• “Is Mac a cat?” (and he is…)
  The 8 Ball answered “You may rely on it.”
• Then I just turned the 8 Ball over without asking it a question and it replied
  “Concentrate and ask again.”

So, I’d say the thing is pretty darn accurate. So, we can be pretty assured that I’m gonna be winning NaNoWriMo this year. Which is a good thing, because I’ve now put a moratorium on singing Queen’s We Are The Champions until I cross the 50,000 word finish line. And sadly, I’ve had a few good victories that I would have liked to sing that song… but Nooooo, it’s not time yet.
