The Collective NaNovel
Lest anyone be worried that Christina or myself be attacked and bludgeoned to death by flying monkeys wielding Steel Banana’s o’ Death, I’ll go ahead and explain the concept of a Collective NaNovel.
FAQ #9 on the NaNoWriMo FAQ page states:
Can I share writing duties with a partner?
No. But we would like to take this opportunity to plug ourĀ Script Frenzy event. Script Frenzy participants write a 100-page stage play or screenplay in April, and for Script Frenzy you are welcome to work with a partner.
I just want to assuage everyone’s fears that we are each writing our very own 50,000 word novel. We are simply writing essentially the same novel. That’s right… the same novel. Same characters, same setting, same basic plot… same but oh-so very different.
If you follow our respective blogs (The Table has Shoes (and Other Ambiguities) and My New Chimerical Kit: Finding balance between effort and surrender) you know that we’ve been producing a series of blogs called Individually Collective Blogging, or ICB. This exercise started back in January, inspired by Melissa and her friend Amy, and was designed to see how differently the two of us think in regards to a common topic. Sometimes it’s pretty obvious that our brains are completely different. Other times, not so much! Anyway, we think that this will be a pretty awesome adventure, and we’re looking forward to it.
Stay tuned… we’ll be making more announcements about our Collective NaNovel beginning on October 1.
For the record… Melissa and Amy might also be participating in a Collective NaNovel of their own… watch their blogs for updates! And they’re just really cool bloggers to boot.
